Four steps, once.
-
01
Install ASTAP
ARGOS does not bundle it. Install the ASTAP executable and one of its star databases — both are separate downloads, and plate solving needs both.
-
02
Install ARGOS
macOS: open the
.dmg, drag ARGOS to Applications, then control-click it and choose Open — the build is unsigned. Debian:sudo apt install ./argos_0.4.1_amd64.deb. -
03
Point ARGOS at ASTAP
In
Settings → Astrometry, browse to the ASTAP executable, and to the star-database folder if it is not auto-detected. The status line must confirm both: ARGOS cannot solve from the executable alone. -
04
Start the telescope in the Seestar app
Every night begins in the official app: power and initialise the Seestar, complete its GoTo calibration and the first focus there. ARGOS does not replace that step. Then connect it over Alpaca —
10.0.0.1:32323in access-point mode — and wait for telescope, camera, filter wheel and focuser to read Ready.

Telescope profiles.
30 mm, f/5.3, IMX585, 3.74″/px, 4.0° × 2.2°. The profile ARGOS is validated against.
30 mm, f/5.0, IMX662, 3.99″/px. Selectable, but GRBG is assumed and the gain curve is inherited.

What changed in 0.4.1.
FOCRATIOcorrected. Every FITS written before 0.4.1 carries f/3.2 instead of the S30 Pro's f/5.3.APTDIAis now written too — check any frame you already hold.- Telescope profiles replace hard-coded optics. A driver mismatch now warns at connect.
- Field identification. Gaia DR3, AAVSO VSX, SIMBAD, NASA Exoplanet Archive hosts and AAVSO VSP, with a per-field query budget and local caches.
- Photometry roles persist. Target, comparison and check selections are stored with the session, not just drawn as overlays.
- Review works offline. Quality trends, curves, FITS headers and the source frame behind any point, with no telescope connected.
- Startup: 26.1 s removed. A quarantine sweep ran over 6 754 files on every launch, of which 0 were ever quarantined.
Before you observe The live curve is a quick-look: uncalibrated, no dark, flat or bias. Keep the raw FITS; the publishable measurement comes from Siril. Attended use only — there is no weather safety and no restart recovery.
